Parallel Play (Parma/Navona)

Lina Andonovska & Alex Raineri.

Release Date: 22 August 2025

Australian flautist Lina Andonovska and pianist Alex Raineri join forces on Parallel Play — a bold new album of chamber music by living composers. Featuring world premiere recordings by Sarah Kirkland SniderJudith RingMarc Mellits, and Paul Dean, the album explores the poetic, playful, and at times turbulent interplay between flute and piano.

The duo also presents a rarely heard arrangement of Richard Strauss’s Sonata in E-flat Major, reframing this Romantic classic through the vibrant colours of the flute.

Made possible in part by Creative Australia, Parallel Play is a celebration of new music and long-time collaboration — a virtuosic and heartfelt contribution to the contemporary flute and piano repertoire.

“Andonovska’s control of her instrument is immediately applaudable and the cyclonic energy of her playing commands an intensity of listening that is rare to encounter. Equally strong as an artist and a technician, it is the former that shines through and defines Andonovska as one of Australia’s leading artists, collaborators and curators.”
